STV Director of Sustainable Design Lauren Alger, P.E., ENV SP, has been selected as a participant in the prestigious Grainger Foundation Frontiers of Engineering 2023 Symposium, organized by the National Academy of Engineering (NAE).

The U.S. Frontiers of Engineering Symposium is an annual three-day event that brings together the nation’s most outstanding early-career engineers from industry, academia, and government. It serves as a platform for discussing groundbreaking research and pioneering technical advancements in various engineering fields and industry sectors. Since its inception in 1995, this program has promoted cross-disciplinary exchange and facilitated the transfer of new techniques and approaches across fields to enhance U.S. innovative capacity.

For the upcoming 2023 symposium, Alger is among a select group of 81 participants who have been invited to delve into cutting-edge developments across four focus areas: Complex Systems in the Context of Health Care; Mining and Mineral Resource Production; Resilience and Security in the Information Ecosystem; and Engineered Quantum Systems.

“I am truly honored to participate in this year’s symposium,” said Alger. “Understanding the innovative ways in which industry leaders are overcoming their challenges will allow our team at STV to stay forward-thinking and accelerate our sustainability efforts within the built environment.”

Alger is widely recognized as a leading advocate for sustainable infrastructure design. She is a co-founder of the American Society of Civil Engineers’ (ASCE) Infrastructure2050 group and a leader of the Structural Engineering Institute’s (SEI) SE 2050 Commitment, an initiative dedicated to the decarbonization of infrastructure. Notably, she has contributed to the Built Environment Embodied Carbon Workshops, a platform that brings together leading industry organizations to accelerate and strategize the rapid reduction of embodied carbon in the built environment.

In recognition of her expertise and thought leadership, Alger has been invited to deliver presentations at prestigious events, including the NJ TransAction Conference, NYC DEP Earth Week, APTA Sustainability Workshop, LA Net Zero Conference, and ASCE INSPIRE Conference.
