As part of the forum, Albahri discussed STV’s own diversity initiatives before introducing Malissa Smith, commissioner and contracting officer at the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development, and Tricia Gardner, a superintendent at Turner Construction Company.
Topics addressed included how women adapt in their respective industries and overcoming misconceptions and stereotypes in the workplace. The panelists shared some of the diversity-based issues they’ve encountered, along with learning experiences and advice. They also highlighted the need to support and mentor early career professionals.
