NY Structural Engineer Inducted into ASCE Met Board of Directors

Soumabrata Dutta

Soumabrata Dutta, a structural engineer in New York, was recently appointed to the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Metropolitan Section’s Board of Directors. A long-time ASCE Met Section member, Dutta was sworn in for the 2023-2024 session at the section’s 57th Annual Awards ceremony held in June.

Dutta is part of STV’s Transportation Northeast team and joined the firm earlier in 2023. Prior to being named to ASCE Met Section’s Board, Dutta previously served the organization as treasurer, vice chair, and chair of the section’s Structural Engineering Institute (SEI) Chapter, as well as a member of the SEI Local Leaders committee.

“When I first moved to New York, I joined ASCE Met because it was a great opportunity for networking and learning from their technical seminars,” Dutta said. “Since then, I’ve enjoyed volunteering for the SEI chapter and getting to know fellow structural engineers in the region.”

He is also a member of the Structural Engineers Association of New York (SEAoNY) Young Members group and the UC San Diego alumni group in New York.

“Our work as engineers is a responsibility,” Dutta said. “At ASCE and other industry events, we get to showcase the human side of the work we do. You meet people who truly are passionate and enthusiastic about what they do. That’s part of why I joined STV because of the focus on seeing a project from an idea to something that fully part of a community and impacting people’s lives.”
