A South Carolina native, and a business unit leader in STV’s Columbia, SC, office, Jeff Mulliken, Ph.D., P.E., recently decided to give back to the institution that helped lay the foundation for his professional success.

Mulliken was recently highlighted by the University of South Carolina, where also serves as an adjunct professor of civil engineering, for establishing a Civil and Environmental Engineering Discretionary Fund for Department Priorities at the university’s College of Engineering and Computing (CEC). The fund will provide direct access to money for department needs that are not easily funded through other methods, such as purchasing new equipment or travel costs.

“As a practicing engineer, I believe it’s my duty to give back to the university,” Mulliken said. “By investing in the university like this, we are also making an investment in improving the communities that we serve.”

At STV, Mulliken has played a key role in several infrastructure initiatives that are helping to improve the quality of life in South Carolina for clients such as the South Carolina Department of Transportation, as well as several municipalities and regional agencies. He also gives back to the industry and “The Palmetto State” through his role as incoming president of the American Council of Engineering Companies South Carolina (ACEC-SC) Chapter and chair of the ACEC-SC’s Future Leaders Program.

By initiating the fund at CEC, Mulliken is hopeful his actions helped “plant the seed” for other alumni to participate and grow this necessary resource for the department.

Mulliken earned his Bachelor of Science (1989), Master’s Degree (1994) and Ph.D. (2011) in civil engineering from the CEC.
