New York’s Ryan Conry Named to BD+C’s 40 Under 40

Feb 1, 2021

Ryan Conry, P.E., S.E., SECB, associate and structural engineer in New York, was selected for the Building Design + Construction (BD+C) 40 Under 40 Class of 2020. The magazine’s 40 Under 40 program was established in 2006 and recognizes the next generation of rising stars in the architecture, construction, and engineering (ACE) community. Competition was fierce and Conry was chosen from a group of more than 160 entries.

“It is a huge honor to be selected from such a highly qualified group of my peers,’ Conry said. ‘We all work so hard to make our projects successful, so an award like this helps validate my efforts as well as those of our entire structural group.”

Since joining STV in 2011, Conry has been involved in the design of several award-winning projects, including Cornell’s University Mui Ho Fine Arts Library; Davis Barracks at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, NY; Curtis High School Addition and Renovation on Staten Island; and the Mother Clara Hale Bus Depot Design-Build in New York. Currently, he is serving as one of the lead structural engineers for the Newark Liberty International Airport Terminal One Design-Build program.

Conry has played a key role in advancing STV’s resilient design initiatives and his expertise was brought to bear on several projects in the New York Metropolitan Region following Superstorm Sandy in 2012. He was a primary contributing author for the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) publication, “Climate-Resilient Infrastructure: Adaptive Design and Risk Management,” which was published in 2018.

Conry is an active member of ASCE and the Structural Engineers Association of NY (SEAoNY). He participated in SEAoNY’s education committee resume workshop and has also participated in STV’s New York team for the ACE (Architecture Construction Engineering) Mentor Program of Greater New York.

“Even as an intern, Ryan possessed an acumen for the business side of engineering,” said Chris Cerino, P.E., SECB, F.SEI, DBIA, vice president and New York structural engineering director. “Combining this trait with stellar engineering skills makes Ryan an amazing asset. I’m sure this award will be the first of many.”

In the community, Conry is involved in numerous fundraising events for the American Cancer Society. An avid runner, he has completed the New York City Marathon, the Long Island Gold Coast Triathlon, and several half marathons. He has also participated in racing events benefitting charitable organizations, including several Tough Mudder obstacle courses for the Wounded Warrior Project as well as the annual Tunnel to Towers run.
