STV Chief Electrical Engineer Named Delaware Valley Engineer of the Year by IEEE Philadelphia Section

Brandon Swartley, P.E., vice president and chief electrical power engineer in Philadelphia, has been named 2022 Delaware Valley Engineer of the Year by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc. (IEEE) Philadelphia Section.

Swartley was recognized for his technical leadership and engineering management in designing the rehabilitation of the Wayne Junction Static Frequency Converter (SFC) Station, a vital rail transit project serving the Philadelphia metropolitan area. He will be honored at the IEEE Annual Awards Banquet in November at the Crowne Plaza Philadelphia-King of Prussia.

“I have the pleasure of working with a talented team of professionals that is committed to making this project successful for SEPTA and its ridership,” Swartley said. “The engineering design and construction staging of Wayne Junction SFC project is critical to maintain continuous power operation to the region’s core transit system, the fifth largest commuter rail system in the United States.  I’m grateful to the IEEE for this recognition.”

The IEEE Philadelphia Section serves more than 4,000 members in the Delaware Valley, including Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties in Pennsylvania, and Burlington, Camden, and Gloucester counties in New Jersey.

Swartley has been with STV since 2015. He holds both a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems from Drexel University. He has been a member of IEEE since 1989 and has been chair of the Philadelphia chapter’s Vehicular Technology Society since 2011. He is also a member of the Engineers’ Club of Philadelphia and the Philadelphia Chapter of the Association of Energy Engineers.
